Nutrition Testing

What is

Nutrition Testing?

Functional nutrition testing is an invaluable method used to identify disturbances (deficiencies, excesses or imbalances) in physiological functioning. These underlying disturbances can cause ill health, increase disease risk or prevent recovery.  Nutrition testing allows us to find out the disturbances causing your health issues and then fine tune your nutrition protocol for more efficient and cost effective results.

Through functional nutrition testing, we are able to look at diet, lifestyle, nutrient status, toxicity exposure, genetics and the physical and physiological impact of stress on the body. These factors, along with a detailed case history, provide a comprehensive picture of what is happening in the individual.

Nutrition testing along with personalised nutrition provides the most tailored, effective approach to your health problems.

How Does Nutrition

Testing Work?

Tests involve taking a saliva, breath, blood, urine or stool sample for laboratory analysis. Most of the samples can be taken at home, but some will require a blood draw from a nurse or phlebotomist.

It is possible for a phlebotomist to come to your home for the blood draw.  Samples are then sent off to reputable UK laboratories such as Invivo, Regenerus Labs or Genova Diagnostics.

Test results are then sent to you normally within 2-4 weeks.

Why is nutrition

testing important?

Functional nutrition testing allows you to get to the root cause of your underlying health problem quickly. It can show what is causing your health problem, if you are headed toward a disease (even though you may not be showing symptoms yet), track progress of your protocol and even motivate you to stick to your protocol.

Nutrition testing may improve compliance and social support. Seeing the results of a lab test makes it easier to stick to your protocol. It may also help a disbelieving spouse, friend or family member to support you. Many people think a food intolerance is just a fad, or that your symptoms aren’t real or you complain too much. Your test results validate your symptoms and can help others be supportive.

SOME OF THE MOST FREQUENTLY USED NUTRITION TESTS INCLUDE

1

DUTCH (HORMONES)

DUTCH (Dried urine test for comprehensive hormones): our most popular test for sex and adrenal hormone analysis

2

Full thyroid panel

Assesses thyroid function and helps the early detection of thyroid disease by measuring thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, T4, free T3 and reverse T3) and antibodies. Thyroid hormone underlies a broad spectrum of chronic illness and has significant effect on mood, energy level, weight and sex drive.
3

Metabolomix+ Personalised Nutrition Assessment

Assesses need for antioxidants, B-vitamins, minerals, digestive support, fatty acids, and amino acids

4

Adrenal stress index

Evaluates levels of cortisol and DHEA. Assesses the adrenal hormone cycle over a day to determine its ability to react to stress. An imbalance can result in chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression and other conditions.
5

Digestive health analysis (stool test)

Comprehensive analysis evaluates digestion, metabolism and absorption of nutrients, gut flora, the colonic environment, parasites, yeasts and pathogenic bacteria and inflammation.
6

Vitamin D

Measures total vitamin D, D2 (ergocalciferol) and D3 (cholecalciferol)
7

Organic acids test (OAT)

Indicates functional nutrient status; malabsorption & dysbiosis; cellular energy & mitochondrial metabolism; neurotransmitter metabolism; vitamin deficiencies; and toxin exposure & detoxification need
8

Mycotox Profile

Mould toxicity signs & symptoms
9

Heavy metal hair analysis

Heavy metal toxicity symptoms

10

Food intolerances / sensitivity

Simple finger-prick testing is used to identify foods which may be causing an adverse effect. The test is a rapid colorimetric ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the measurement of IgG antibodies to a selection of commonly eaten foods.

How much does nutrition testing cost?

The cost of nutrition testing varies, dependent on the complexity of the test. Tests normally start around £40 up to around £600.
