Some heavy metals and environmental toxins act as ‘anti-nutrients’ in the body, so it’s important to eat a diet full of nutrients to not only add back nutrients, but also to add even more to help the body detox and eliminate those toxins.

This smoothie covers all of the bases – plant-based protein, complex slow-release carbohydrates and healthy fats. A combination that will keep you content and energised for hours.  Berries and spinach are full of potassium and magnesium, important in energy production and metabolism.  Chia seeds and flaxseeds are high in essential anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, important in cell membrane and brain health.  And the fibre will keep your digestive tract healthy. ENERGISING GREEN SMOOTHIE

Serves 1

Ingredients

1 banana or 1 cup blueberries or raspberries

1 cup kale or spinach

1 tsp chia seeds

1 tsp flaxseeds

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 cup almond milk (or coconut or oat milk or coconut water)

Directions

Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender.  Add ice if necessary.
